On May 20, 2022, this C-17 Gobemaster was dedicated as the Spirit of the Candy Bomber in honor of Colonel Gail Candy Bomber Halvorsen for his service during the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949 in the presence of his family. Gail Halvorsen became famous when he made small parachutes with candy during the Berlin Airlift and dropped them from his Douglas DC-54 as he approached Berlin.
