Flygplan Interflug Ilyushin IL-62M
Initially established for charter services, the Gesellschaft für internationalen Flugverkehr mbH (Company for international Air Transportation, Limited), better known as Interflug, became the sole national airline of the German Democratic Republic in 1963 with the dissolution of the East German Lufthansa and the transfer of all aircraft. From 1970, Interflug used Ilyushin IL-62 aircraft primarily on the prestigious route from (East-)Berlin to Moscow, but also on long-haul routes to Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo as well as to African destinations. With a total of 21 IL-62s, the GDR was the second largest customer of this type after the Soviet Aeroflot. Until 1986, further IL-62Ms, including this example with the registration DDR-SEO, were used to replace the IL-18 and older IL-62s.
