It was just as the year 1955 was drawing to a close that the Flygvapnet received its first Saab 32 Lansens. The single-engine, two-seater Lansen was designed by Svenska Aeroplan AB (Saab) and was the first Swedish plane to fly faster than sound. 456 of this versatile aircraft were produced, and were available in three main versions. The shape of its swept wings was put to the test by fitting them to a Saab Safir. A PS-431/A radar (designed in France to Swedish specifications) was equipped to 1 in every 4 aeroplanes as a money-saving measure.
