Description

BMW 1600 GT Coupé - silver metallic

Sporty classic with a refined coat of paint

Painted silver, it was the most popular version ordered the BMW 1600 GT Coupé had a short stay under the blue and white brand emblem on the top of the bonnet. BMW allowed the 1600 GT Coupé from the Glas legacy to remain on its order lists for no more than another twelve months. With the takeover of Glas, the GT model was equipped with BMW technology as of September 1967, so that the 105 hp BMW engine was fitted as standard. And of course the radiator grille as seen on the WIKING classic became the BMW kidney grille and got new tail lights. Despite all this, the story remains remarkable: In its original version presented at the IAA in 1963, the Italian car body builder Frua had given the Glas 1300 GT sports coupé all the aesthetic gems a contemporary sports car needed. While delivery of the first 75 hp 1300 GT began in 1964, the 1700 Coupé was launched in September with 100 hp and a top speed of 185 km/h. The most striking change entailed in the Glas upgrading: Due to the higher construction of the engine, the bonnet had a flat dome, which was from then on used for all models.
