Radiant BMW convertible steeped in fine Italian tradition
In 1963, Hans Glas knew what he owed his customers with the 1600 convertible: The designer of the Italian car body builders Frua managed to marry sportiness with body lines of exceptional elegance – regardless of whether the convertible was driven with the top off or with the top on. Later adopted by BMW into their product range, the convertibles made under the moniker of the BMW 1600 GT were few and far between, finally sealing the fate of the gorgeous Glas body. With the BMW 1600 GT convertible, WIKING adds to their product range a classic of the sixties that is now nearly forgotten. Following their acquisition of the company, BMW continued to make the sporty series designed by Glas from the autumn of 1967 to the summer of 1968, but the vehicle never managed to shake the image of a phased-out model. After taking over the Dingolfing car manufacturer Glas, it was only logical for the new owners at BMW to place their brand logo on the tip of the hood and to treat the radiator to the brand's signature kidney look.
