Class V 200 Diesel Locomotive

Model: The locomotive has a digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has controlled, high-efficiency propulsion, centrally mounted. Four axles powered. Traction tires. Dual headlights and dual red marker lights change over with the direction of travel, will work in conventional operation, and can be controlled digitally. The headlights at Locomotive End 2 and 1 can be turned off separately in digital operation. When the headlights are turned off at both ends of the locomotive, then the double A light function is on at both ends. The cab lighting changes over with the direction of travel, and it can be controlled digitally. The engine room lighting can be controlled digitally. Maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. Two operating ventilation fans are each powered by a motor and can be controlled digitally in pairs. The ventilation grills on the roof are constructed of metal. The engine room details are new tooling. Separately applied grab irons on the sides and ends are constructed of metal. The buffer height conforms to the NEM. The locomotive has close couplers with a guide mechanism. The couplers can be replaced by closed end skirting. Main air lines, heating lines, imitation couplers, and closed end skirting are included for installation on the locomotive. Length over the buffers approximately 21.3 cm / 8-3/8".

Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) heavy diesel hydraulic locomotive, road number V 200 002. V 200.0 (preproduction series) general-purpose locomotive in a crimson paint scheme as the locomotive looked in the Mid-Fifties. Use: Medium and heavy passenger and freight trains.

The new German Federal Railroad was intensively involved in the Fifties with replacing costly steam operation with other types of motive power. In the meantime, the high cost of comprehensive electrification would have broken the budgets of that time. Attention was thus also paid to powerful diesel-powered units for important express train service. The required technology was already available for smaller and medium weight diesel locomotives. In the meantime, the decision was taken for low maintenance and quiet running articulated drive shaft technology for powerful motorized units. In this connection Daimler-Benz, MAN, and Maybach in cooperation with the German Federal Railroad Central Office in Munich had come up with a new 12-cylinder power plant with 1,100 horsepower performance. In addition, Maybach and Voith developed a new fluid drive. The successful V 200.0 locomotive was developed from these progressive components at Krauss-Maffei under the participation of most of the West German locomotive builders. The two power plants of the V 200.0 put out 2,200 horsepower together with a service weight of about 78 metric tons. A comparatively powerful steam locomotive with a tender would have tipped the scales at about 160 metric tons. The proof of the extraordinarily high reliability and practicality of these locomotive icons was that half a century after their purchase there are still several units currently in service abroad and on privately owned railroads.

The class V 200.0 diesel locomotive is being produced in 2024 in a one-time series only for Trix Club members.

The F41 Senator express train passenger car set to go with this locomotive is also being offered under item number 23233 exclusively for Trix Club members. This model can be found in an AC version in the Märklin H0 assortment under item number 38200 exclusively for Insider members.
