DKW speedvan bus - ruby red/ivory
The first trips after the war in the DKW minibus
When the heat became unbearable, a simple grip of a handle was all it took to open the roof and enjoy the open air. The bus version launched by DKW earned the speed van a rank among the most popular tour mobiles of the 1950s. DKW realised the striking bicolour design in the prototype by contrasting the ivory flanks with the ruby red body. Always striking a well-balanced and attractive figure, the contrasting design of the body proved to be the option of choice for the bus versions in the 1950s and 1960s. It was intended to come across as classy and, of course, capture attention. From 1955 to 1962 the Type 3 DKW speed van was built with a three cylinder 896 cc engine of 32 HP.
