This is how the good star arrived at new Benz drivers
Following their careful placement on the car transporter, the highly polished limousines were sent on their way from Stuttgart to the dealerships and their buyers who awaited their arrival with bated breath. This was the exact scenario in the sixties, when Mercedes-Benz Ponton models came to be the status symbols that anyone succeeding in Germanys revitalised economy longed to own. This is the story told by the limited edition theme set that WIKING is making available to collectors in the April delivery. The Grand Ponton Mercedes is the title the traditional model makers chose to relate a piece of automotive history in post-war Germany. Three meticulously imprinted and intricately crafted Mercedes-Benz vehicles demonstrate the ability of the freshly revitalised moulds that were created under the auspices of WIKING founder Fritz Peltzer to create fascinating miniatures and monuments to model making. Including a car transporter whose flanks attest to the glory of the Stuttgart auto brand, this contemporary long-hood semi-trailer adds a magnificent model theme to the collections of ambitious WIKING fans. The trio making up the load hauled by the car transporter consists of the Ponton limousine and two companion convertibles - one with the top up and one with the top down. WIKING has once again managed to keep the automotive feeling of the late fifties alive and to tie this new model in seamlessly with their own tradition as model makers.
