Airfield fire engine with a desert sand design
This is how fire engines became classics: WIKING received a first request as early as the 1960s when Austrian fire engine manufacturer Rosenbauer asked to have their airfield fire engine miniaturised. The fact that WIKING head Fritz Peltzer took no more than eight days following the receipt of the request to dictate a reply letter and present Konrad Rosenbauer KG with a model solution that was in line with their strategy is a clear indication of how quickly, and yet thoroughly, offers were prepared in those days. The former airport fire engine FLF-A 3000 mounted on a Mercedes Benz 322 chassis was to Peltzer’s liking - and prompted him to mount the model on the existing chassis of the Mercedes-Benz short hood. WIKING is now adding a version with beige desert sand paintwork that has been crafted from historic moulds.
