Flygplan U.S. Air Force Convair B-58A Hustler - 305th Bombardment Wing, Bunker Hill Air Base Hoosier Hustler 59-2461
Activated in 1951, the 305th Bomb Wing moved to Bunker Hill Air Base in Indiana in 1959, and was there designated as the second wing to operate the B-58 supersonic bomber. The first of these impressive aircraft was delivered in May 1961. Right from the start, the B-58 shone with record performances, such as in 1963 with a flight by 305th Wing Hustler from Tokyo via Anchorage, Alaska, to London in just 8:35 hours. 59-2461 was the first B-58A for the 305th Bomb Wing and became known as the "Hoosier Hustler" with matching titles on its nose. Since back in the 1840s, Hoosier has been the name given to the inhabitants of the state of Indiana.
