Vickers machine guns were .303 caliber (7.7 mm), recoil-operated, water-cooled medium machine guns that the British developed and used primarily during World War I. The weapon was capable of firing up to 600 rounds a minute and, with an experienced crew, spare barrels and ample ammunition, was capable of maintaining that rate of fire for twelve hours.
