The Silhouet is a river boat built in 1893 in Groningen, Holland.
This type of boat known as a 'Tjalk' was once very common in the Netherlands and was used as a light cargo boat on the country's inland waterways. The fact it does not have a keel allowed it to navigate very shallow waters.
This is also why its two skegs are on the sides of the boat. The usual crew consists of two people.
Championships are held for these boats, of which the most famous is the one known as 'Skutsjesilen'
