On February 23rd, 2024 Hawaiian Airlines first of twelve Dreamliners on order was welcomed in Honolulu with a special celebration, including a formal Hawaiian blessing. Emphasis was put in creating an interior that honors the island groups Polynesian culture by using special fabrics, wall panels, up to numbering of seat rows in Hawaiian language. The airline has named its long-haul aircraft for stars and constellation used in the traditions of Polynesian navigators. N781HA is named for Kapuahi, a red giant star in the Taurus constellation, known as Aldebaran in Western astronomy. Starting April 2024, the aircraft will be operated on routes connecting Honolulu with the US west coast.
