Flygplan Luftwaffe Alpha Jet A - Fighter-Bomber Wing 43 (JaboG 43), Oldenburg - NATO Tiger Meet 1991

Initially established in 1959 as Fighter Wing 72 at Leck Air Base, located between Flensburg and the North Sea coast, and equipped with F-86 Sabre fighter aircraft, the squadron was relocated to Oldenburg in 1964 and given a new role there as Fighter-Bomber Wing 43. In order to strengthen the cohesion and cooperation of the air forces of the various NATO member countries, a quite small meeting of three squadrons took place for the first time in Woodsbridge, England, in 1961. In this first exercise, all participants incidentally had a tiger in their coat of arms, which is why "Tiger Meet" came up as a name for the annual gathering. In 1962 the then 2nd squadron of Fighter Wing 72, called the "Foxes", half-jokingly applied for admission to the Tiger Meet Association, although their squadron name and badge clearly did not show a big cat. Nevertheless, the membership was recognized by the other units and also continued by the "Foxes" after they were reorganized two years later as the then 1st Squadron of the new 43rd Wing. At the Tiger Meet in Fairford, England, in July 1991, the squadron took part with this special color scheme one last time before it was disbanded in 1992 as part of the general détente after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
