Low-loader trailer truck (Faun) "Aug. Alborn"
Good names: August Alborn relied on Faun and Scheuerle
The August Alborn forwarding company knew exactly who you could depend on in the nineteen sixties! Faun and Scheuerle were the finest addresses when it came to powerful solutions for heavy goods transport. No wonder then that the tractor unit and low-loader rolled into the Alborn fleet early on and became reliable companions for many years in the countless hauling jobs the specialists undertook with their heavy goods transports from the family headquarters in Dortmund. It took some getting used to for the driver behind the steering wheel of the Faun 610/36 to safely guide the monumental cargo along the asphalt what with the bonnet that protruded far out in the front and the large Scheuerle low-loader in tow in the rear. On the flip side, the thundering Deutz engine made it possible to keep a remarkable 80 tonnes effortlessly in motion. The prototype of this low-loader had been a part of the product range since the 1950s while production of the last types of Scheuerle trailers did not end until the 1980s. The attached low-loader consists of four assemblies - the draw-bar, the two five-metre-long chassis and the transport surface in between. This set-up translates to a bearing surface that allowed the original to support the respectable payload of 50 tonnes. Fully laden, the high-speed version of this heavy low-loader weighed 72 tonnes and was approved to travel at a maximum of 62 km/h. Spanning a length and width of 18 meters and 2.75 metres, respectively, the trailer required tractor units such as the Faun that possessed the necessary power. More often than not such heavy cargo as excavators and crawlers, but also hefty machinery, were loaded on the trailer for travel on the road.
