It was a vehicle shrunk to the essentials stripped off all automotive comfort. But, it served its purpose at the onset of the Economic Miracle, when the shift from two-wheelers to the car was predetermined. The Messerschmitt bubble car KR 201 offered top-down fun like no other vehicle. Those who managed to call a folding roof their own after placing their order could count themselves lucky. The red body was considered trendy back then and this incarnation of automotive summer fun excited curious looks from those catching sight of it from the side of the road. It was not until the sixties that the KR 201 began to show its age, as people had come to desire a full-fledged car and even more small car comfort - the era of this vehicle that embodied the trade-offs of the post-war years had come to an end
