On 27 April 2005 at 10.29am local time (8:29am UTC), the first A380 (MSN -Manufacturial Serial Number-001), registered F-WWOW, took off from Toulouse-Blagnac for its first flight lasting 3 hours and 54 minutes, without a hitch.  At present, four planes have conducted their inaugural flight, in a different order from their construction order. The fourth  (MSN 004 F-WWDD) took to the air on 18 October 2005, and was the first to carry out the welcome and maintenance tests on line at Frankfurt Airport on 29 October. The third (MSN 003 F-WWSA) flew in November of the same year and the seventh (MSN 007 F-WWSD) in February 2006.  With the introduction of the summer timetable at the end of March 2008, four A380s will join the Lufthansa fleet , and Lufthansa will be the first European carrier to deploy the new super-Airbus in scheduled service. Lufthansa is purchasing a total of 15 A380s, all of which will be based at Frankfurt.  The A380 is extremely fuel-efficient, requiring a mere 3.3. litres of fuel to carry one passenger 100 kilometers. It is also quieter than today’s long-range aircraft, and will reduce noise within airport environs. The noise footprint of the A380 on the ground is one third smaller than the footprint of the Boeing 747-400.
